Nichia NVSU233CT-D4 UV SMD LED 405nm 1000mA 3.6W Emitter 60deg
This product is a high-power UV-A LED with a peak wavelength of 405 nm and a radiant power of 1610 mW at the specified drive current.
UV-A radiation in this range is the working wavelength for UV curing of adhesives, inks and coatings, for fluorescence excitation in inspection and analysis, and for counterfeit detection. An LED source has decisive advantages over a mercury lamp here: instant full output with no warm-up, free switching and dimming, a narrow emission band instead of a broad spectrum with unwanted infrared, a much longer service life and no mercury to dispose of.
This is the bare emitter package for customers who mount the LED on their own board. Reflow soldering according to the manufacturer's temperature profile is required; hand soldering will normally damage the package.
Two properties distinguish UV LEDs from white LEDs in the design work. Their radiant output is specified in milliwatts rather than lumens, because the human eye is not the measuring instrument here. And they are considerably more sensitive to junction temperature, with both the output and the lifetime falling noticeably as the LED heats up, so a generously dimensioned heat sink is not optional.
Why we build with Nichia LEDs
Nichia is a major Japanese LED manufacturer and one of the companies closely associated with the development and commercialisation of high-brightness blue and white LED technology. Its professional lighting LEDs are selected for well-documented optical and electrical characteristics, tight binning options and long-term characterisation. For a luminaire maker, that means the PCB, driver and thermal design can be built around defined forward-voltage, flux, colour and temperature limits instead of anonymous components whose behaviour may change from one batch to the next.
