Why LumiFlex strips outperform low-cost LED strips
Every LumiFlex strip is built in our Reel-to-Reel production center in Germany using LEDs from Nichia, Seoul Semiconductor, Samsung, Cree and Toshiba-SSC — chosen per family for the job the strip has to do. The difference against a low-cost strip is visible from the first switch-on, and it widens over the installation's life.
1. L80 at 60,000 hours, proven by LM-80 testing
Every LED we use is LM-80 tested by its manufacturer, with lifetime projected under TM-21. Both are internationally recognized standards applied by all major LED makers, which means the figures can be compared directly between brands rather than taken on trust.
On that basis, LumiFlex strips still deliver 80% of their initial light output after 60,000 hours — around 15 years in a shop running 12 hours a day, or several decades in a home. Note what L80 means here: not merely still working at 60,000 hours, but still bright enough that the installation looks as intended.
A low-cost strip has no comparable data behind it. In practice, it can lose up to 60% of its initial output inside 10,000 hours, roughly a year of continuous use, and often becomes too dim for its original purpose within the first few thousand.
2. Up to 155 lm/W measured at the strip
Most LED strip specifications quote the efficacy of the bare LED. We quote the finished strip, including driver losses, copper resistance, and thermal derating — the light you actually get per watt on the wall.
Our best-performing families reach up to 155 lm/W at the strip. Low-cost strips typically deliver well under 80 lm/W once the same losses are accounted for.
The practical effect is large. In a cove-lighting retrofit from low-cost strips to LumiFlex, illumination rose three to five times at the same power draw:
3. Consistent white light, reel after reel
We apply 3-step MacAdam ellipse binning across our entire white range. Every reel in a project matches, and a reorder six months later matches the reels already installed — which matters when a run is extended or a damaged section replaced.
Low-cost strips are rarely binned to any standard. Differences in white tone are common between reels, and sometimes within a single reel. Worse, cheap phosphors shift with age: after a few thousand hours the same run drifts into visible yellow and blue patches.
4. CRI 80 to 98, matched to the application
Colour rendering is a choice, not a fixed property. Our families span CRI 80 for general and architectural lighting through CRI 90 and 95 to CRI 98 with Toshiba-SSC SunLike full-spectrum LEDs, where accurate colour is critical — galleries, retail displays, print and paint inspection, jewellery.
Low-cost strips top out around CRI 80 in name only, and distort warm tones in particular: reds, oranges and skin tones read flat and brown.

Accessories for LED strips
The LumiFlex LED strips that are 8mm wide can be combined with profiles, to create luminaires with a minimalist design. Our profiles use high-quality materials and finishes, being aimed at the German market. The profiles protect the strips from dust, mechanical shocks and provide cooling for even longer life.
