Nichia 2-Channel LED Modules: Dynamic and Bright, High-Tech LED Lighting

Our range of 2-channel LED modules and strips can meet a wide range of dynamic lighting applications, including Tunable White, Nichia Dynasolis or Two Color.

These LED modules use Nichia 757 LEDs or direct mountable, packageless, Direct Mountable Chip LEDs, both with cutting edge innovative technologies such Nichia Optisolis, Vitasolis or H6 (Highest Efficacy CRI90 LEDs).

  • Nichia 757 LEDs are the Industry leading 3030 Mid-power LED, with the highest luminous efficacy (up to 222 lm/w) and reliability (up to 100.000h L70 lifetime). Each LED has a typical consumption of 0.2W at 65mA, for a luminous flux up to 45 lm.
  • Nichia Direct Mountable Chip is a chip scale LED which has been developed through Nichia's technology and expertise in phosphors and LEDs. By making the LED package size equal to the light-emitting surface size, it is possible to achieve the largest class of luminous flux density in a limited space within a luminaire.

Tunable White lighting

Tunable white LED modules and strips are designed to accurately replicate the dynamic color shifts of natural sunlight by combining two different types of white LEDs. This allows precise control over the light's color temperature, which is scientifically measured in degrees Kelvin (K). For instance, natural light at sunrise or sunset typically falls between 2000-3500K, known as warm white. As the day progresses, morning light shifts to pure white with a color temperature of 3500-4500K, and at noon, it transitions to a cold white in the range of 5500-6500K.

Color temperature of sunlight, daylight

Tunable white lighting is a fundamental component of Human-Centric Lighting (HCL), which focuses on aligning artificial lighting with human needs. By mimicking the natural progression of daylight, HCL can positively affect psychological and physiological processes like mood, concentration, productivity, and the regulation of sleep-wake cycles. For instance, warm white light can evoke feelings of relaxation similar to those experienced during a sunset, while pure white light can energize, much like the brightness of midday sun. HCL systems help indoor environments simulate the natural time of day, promoting a more intuitive connection to light and time, even when indoors.

To fully realize the benefits of HCL, the lighting system must provide a high-quality spectrum, easy adjustment of color temperature and brightness, and energy-efficient performance with minimal maintenance. Our Tunable White LED strips or modules, paired with the Powercontroller light control system, offer a comprehensive solution for HCL. These systems ensure superior light quality, optimal energy efficiency, and long operational life of up to 100,000 hours. Options include LumiBar 2-channel LED modules for linear lighting, Daisy 2-channel LED modules with lenses for downlights or wall washers, SmartArray 2-channel LED modules for compact fixtures, and LumiFlex or SlimFlex 2-channel LED strips for cove or direct lighting applications.

Nichia Dynasolis

Nichia's Dynasolis™ represents a groundbreaking LED tuning technology designed to regulate circadian rhythms by simultaneously adjusting melanopic illuminance and color temperature while maintaining high CRI and efficiency. Unlike conventional human-centric lighting systems that only shift correlated color temperature (CCT), Dynasolis™ also focuses on non-visual effects, such as those influencing the body's circadian rhythms. The system leverages Azure LEDs to provide 480nm light, a wavelength abundant in morning sunlight that promotes serotonin production, increasing alertness and overall well-being. By controlling light exposure throughout the day, Dynasolis™ enhances melatonin secretion in the evening, aiding in sleep regulation and supporting circadian health.

The importance of 480nm light is twofold: it helps activate the mind and body in the morning and prepares the body for sleep later in the day. Nichia’s Dynasolis™ improves on traditional lighting by focusing on this critical wavelength, maximizing melanopic illuminance, which directly influences circadian rhythms. The system replaces high-CCT LEDs with Azure LEDs, maintaining a balance between energizing and calming light spectra. This provides a more comprehensive approach to human-centric lighting, optimizing both color and spectrum for well-being and productivity. The flexibility of Dynasolis™ allows for precise color and spectrum tuning, making it suitable for a wide range of applications through Nichia’s Direct Mountable Chip Series or 757 Series LEDs.

For a Dynasolis LED module, we offer customizable 2-channel modules where Channel 1 features Azure LEDs and Channel 2 includes warm white LEDs, enabling precise control over circadian lighting environments.

Two-Color Lighting

Our customizable LED modules also support specialized two-color lighting configurations. For example, a module can be configured with white LEDs for daylight lighting and red LEDs for night lighting or emergency scenarios, providing flexibility for specific use cases.

With our new PowerControler range of control units, you are empowered to control 2-channel LED modules, including the color, white color temperature and intensity levels of light in all the required ways of Human Centric Lighting and beyond. Tunable White, RGBW and even single color LEDs can be controlled via dimmers, switches, your smartphone or the DALI protocol.

The PowerControler can control constant voltage 12V or 24V LED strips by using only a dimmable power supply, or modules with constant current (in connection with the compatible LED driver as below).

The LumiFlex LED strips that are 8mm wide can be combined with profiles, to create luminaires with a minimalist design. Our profiles use high-quality materials and finishes, being aimed at the German market. The profiles protect the strips from dust, mechanical shocks and provide cooling for even longer life.

The Nichia LED quality

The Japanese company Nichia, our recommended choice for the LEDs used on LED strips or modules, is the world leader in the LED market, with a market share of over 25% and the longest experience in the field. Nichia is the inventor of the white LED production technology, receiving the Nobel Prize for this invention.

The very long life of Nichia 757 LEDs (minimum 100,000 hours), exceptional luminous efficacy, superior light output and spectrum qualify our LED strips for long-term use even for the most demanding applications.

The difference between the quality and performance of the a strip with Nichia LEDs and a low-cost LED strip, is evident from the first light, and in time the gap increases even more.

1. Longest-lasting light: Nichia LEDs last 90% longer

Longest-lasting light: Nichia LEDs last 90% longer

After 10,000 hours of operation, a Nichia 757 LED keeps 97% of the initial luminous flux, under high operating conditions, shining like in the beginning, while 90% is maintained even after 60.000 hours.

In most applications, this translates into an effective 100,000 hours lifetime or 10 years of continuous operation in a shopping center, decades of operation in a home.

In contrast, a low-cost LED loses up to 60% of the initial value in less than 10,000 hours, approximately one year of operation. It becomes too weak for the initial purpose in just 1,000-3,000 hours.

The evolution of light output for the Nichia 757 LEDs is demonstrated by 10,000 hours of testing, according to the LM-80 standard. Lifetime (light at 70%, 80% and 90%) is calculated using TM-21, both internationally recognized standards and used by all major manufacturers.

More light for less power: Nichia LEDs are 65% more energy efficient

The design and material quality influence the luminous efficacy and the LED light output. Nichia 757 LEDs have the highest luminous efficacy on the market, more than 230 lumens per watt, compared to a low-cost LED that has less than 80 lumens per watt.

The difference of more than 65% in luminous efficacy is outstanding when seen in practice. After a cove light retrofit from low-cost LED strips to Nichia LED strips, the illumination increased by three to five times for the same power consumption:

3. Uniform white light: Nichia 757 LEDs are color temperature sorted

By implementing the 3 Macadam Elipse sorting standard in our manufacturing, ensures that Nichia LED strips for a project will have the same white color temperature. Uniformity is also be maintained for future projects. 

In contrast, low-cost LED strips are not manufactured with the Macadam Elipse sorting standard, being delivered with many different color temperatures of white. Often, differences are even on the same reel. Moreover, after just a few thousand hours, the low-cost LEDs change their color temperature, resulting in a rainbow effect with yellow and blue hues.

After a cove-light retrofit from low-cost LED strips to Nichia LED strips, the importance of the 3 Macadam Elipse sorting standard is clear.

4. Natural light spectrum: Nichia 757 LEDs have CRI up to 99

Nichia LEDs, with CRI up to 99, reproduce colors as naturally as possible, closely matching the spectrum of sunlight. This capability ensures that colors are rendered accurately and vividly, enhancing the visual experience in any application

Low-cost LEDs only have a maximum CRI of 80, their light distorting color shades, especially warm colors, such as red, orange or brown.
