This product is a large-area LED module from the BackMatrix family, carrying 196 LEDs from Nichia on a single square board and delivering 2390 lm, 16.83 W of power consumption and an efficacy of 142 lm/W.
BackMatrix modules are designed for backlighting rather than for directed light. The LEDs sit in a dense, regular grid, so at a short distance behind a diffuser the individual light points blend into a completely even luminous surface with no visible hotspots. That is what makes it possible to build a thin luminous ceiling or light box: with a conventional strip layout the same evenness would require a much deeper cavity.
The module runs on 24 V constant voltage, so a large surface can be assembled from several modules fed from one power supply, and it uses plug-and-play connectors for solderless installation. The board can be divided into segments, which allows an irregular surface to be covered without custom parts.
Why we build with Nichia LEDs
Nichia is a major Japanese LED manufacturer and one of the companies closely associated with the development and commercialisation of high-brightness blue and white LED technology. Its professional lighting LEDs are selected for well-documented optical and electrical characteristics, tight binning options and long-term characterisation. For a luminaire maker, that means the PCB, driver and thermal design can be built around defined forward-voltage, flux, colour and temperature limits instead of anonymous components whose behaviour may change from one batch to the next.
The BackMatrix-49-3080 comes with a 5-year warranty. A warranty period of that length is only possible because the components, the thermal design and the production process are under our own control, and it gives you real investment security on a component that will be built into an installation.
Made in Germany – for reliable quality
This Lumistrips light engine is developed and manufactured at our production site in Germany. The PCB is assembled on controlled SMD equipment and the finished boards are visually inspected and electrically tested. We use specified, traceable LED components and defined production parameters so that current, voltage, light output and colour remain reproducible from batch to batch.
The difference from generic LED tape or anonymous modules is control of the complete light engine: copper layout, soldering quality, LED spacing, component selection and thermal path are defined together. That gives luminaire makers a more predictable component for continuous operation, easier qualification and repeat orders that behave like the original build.
